Well, we made it through our first unsanctioned tournament.
Cosmic Tags Kickoff was a success!
We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful morning to play disc golf. Cool crisp air on a cloudless day with no real wind to bother the flying discs....warming up throughout the day.
This is what we hope for when we come out to play.
Scott Gay was Tournament Director (TD) and was steady at the helm while guiding some well-trained rookies to success. Daniel Miller was Assistant TD, and along with Dave Schnatterer and George Davidson, they sprung into action early, before the gate to the park was even opened. Cosmic Premier TD Brandon Beck was not present, but his presence was felt as he prepared us with his assistance prior to game day.
We had also some much appreciated service from some other early birds that came out to volunteer. Kevin Silva and Justin Flanagan were early arrivals. Ferdinand Mendoza came early to help as well, but everything was already covered! Collectively, we got the tournament set up in time for the scheduled 8AM check-in time.
Thanks to George Davidson for designing the Cosmic Tags and creating a very lovely cabinet for the tags!
It took a while to get everything done after the tournament ended as there were many players that ended up tied with the same score, and we thank you for your patience as we wrapped it all up. A crowd of happy disc golfers patiently awaited their Cosmic Tags while (literally) chilling in the park as the sun ducked behind the clouds the wind stepped it up a notch.
Dave Woods was a big help in sorting out the tags at the end of the day as Scott and Dan sorted out the payouts.
I was the guy in the stickered-up VW bus slinging discs and apparel, as we brought part of the store to the people to save them a trip to the Cosmic pro shop.
This was a great day of disc golf and an important step in the growth of building a new era of Cosmic Tournaments and leagues. I have a new appreciation for all that goes into making a tournament happen. It's a lot of work and planning, more than I thought.
As good as it was, the next one will be better!! This is all new to me and Cosmic, but I am committed to making each event better than the last!
